Visual computing in machine intelligence is a combination of computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition and other fields. Due to the importance of ubiquitous visual data and promising applications, large-scale image/video understanding has aroused strong interest of researchers.
This project aims to investigate on the efficiency, accuracy and robustness of the current computer vision and machine learning theories. Novel theories and methods will be established to process the visual big data. Visual feature extraction, feature representation, visual learning and inference as well as knowledge transfer between multiple visual tasks will be thoroughly studied in this project.
Applicants should hold a first or upper second class honours degree (in a relevant subject) from a British higher education institution, or equivalent. Students who are not UK/EU residents are eligible to apply, provided they hold the relevant academic qualifications, together with an IELTS score of at least 6.5.

The studentship includes a full stipend, paid for three years at RCUK rates (in 2014/15 this is £13,863 pa); tuition fees and research and training support budget. Overseas students are welcome to apply, as the international tuition fees are covered.
